Manchester University STEM Challenge
A group of 12 students from Central Lancaster High School year 8 and 9 took part in the STEM Technology Challenge Day at Manchester University.
During the visit they took part in multiple challenges relating to the use of technology in the workplace.
They developed a range of skills on the challenge; separated and put into groups with students from other school, they performed exceptionally well and this activity took them out of their out of their comfort zone.
Mr Parr (Computer Science and ICT teacher) saw the students demonstrate strong team work and leadership skills throughout the day.
The challenges included, a robotics challenge, a miniature race car engineering challenge, an E-FIT facial recognition software challenge and a medical diagnosis challenge
Central Lancaster High School are currently investing in the development of their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) curriculum with new technology programmes for students being delivered from September 2017.
Headteacher Nicola Hall said “with STEM representing a major field in the British economy is wonderful to see our students participating in high quality challenges staged by higher education partners. Our students were a credit to the school and their families and have gained great skills and confidence from the day”.
